The Black Cats registered a much needed win over the weekend, but lost the 23-year-old striker in the opening 15 minutes of the game. Bendtner was accidentally caught in the face by Angel Rangel and had to be replaced by Connor Wickham.
Sunderland issued an update according to which Bendtner had suffered a fractured nose and was currently being monitored. The scans revealed his facial injuries had been much more serious that initially thought because of which he was ruled out of action.
Dr Glen Rae, the head of Sunderland’s medical department, said while speaking to reporters:
“The results of the scans have been received and Nicklas will now undergo further treatment.
Sunderland Royal Hospital provided a first-class response and I would like to thank them for their assistance.”
