England responded in classy fashion on Wednesday as they recovered from back-to-back defeats to thump Sri Lanka by 10 wickets and level the ODI series 2-2. The win thus sets up a pulsating decider at Old Trafford on Saturday, with England brimming with confidence.
England’s bowlers were on fine form as they made light work of Sri Lanka, bowling them all out for a measly 171. James Anderson impressed with figures of 3-24, with Jade Dernbach also on song finishing with 3-38, while Tim Bresnan and Stuart Broad collected two wickets each.
For the second match in succession captain Alastair Cook led by example as he and fellow opening batsman Craig Kieswetter rapidly closed down the 171 target. The dynamic duo were on scintillating form, with Cook ending on 95 not out and Kieswetter on 72 not out as they swept away all deliveries before them. Betfred have priced cook at 7/2 to finish the Fifth ODI match as England’s Top Batsman, while Kieswetter is a good shout at 4/1, as is Jonathan Trott.
England will now go into the fifth and final ODI international in high spirits and fully confident they can put on a repeat performance and romp to victory. England are now the 4/6 favourites with Betfred to win the Fifth ODI and thus win the series, while Sri Lanka are available at odds of 6/5 to pull off a win.
