This week it is off to Paris, France for the EuropeanTour ,players will be making a short trip from last week`s event in Germany to the neighbor country of France, to play the Alstom Open de France. Twelve months ago it was the Spaniard, Miguel Angel Jimenez that won the event in a three man playoff after he had come to the last with a two shot lead, but hit it into the water and made double bogey.

It seemed only fair, that he was to win in the playoff against fellow Spaniard Alejandro Canizares and Italian Francesco Molinari. This tournament the Open de France, was first inaugurated in 1906 it is so far the oldest national open on the Continental Europe and has been part of the European Tour`s schedule ever since the tour`s inception in 1972. The tournament was originally played at the La Boulie Golf Club, and has been played at numerous different courses around the country under different names. Since 1991, the tournament has been hosted at the Le Golf National near Paris every year except for 1999 and 2001. From 2006 to 2009 the event was called Open de France ALSTOM, and last year it was changed to the title it carries this year the Alstom Open de France. Since the event was added to the European schedule, it has been won by numerous famous players such being Peter Oosterhuis, Greg Norman, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Bernhard Langer just to name a few. Since 1972 the event has gone to a playoff nine times, in order to determine the winner of the event the last two years it has been taken to extra holes. The event in 2009, was a thrill with Martin Kaymer and Lee Westwood battling it out for the title, it was Martin Kaymer that walked away with the title. This weekend we saw a battle of the Spaniards, when Pablo Larrazable took on Sergio Garcia in Germany for a five hole playoff win for Pablo, who won this event in France in 2008 when he beat Colin Montgomerie for the title.
