We are down to our final eight countries that are left in the Davis Cup and these teams will battle it out in the quarterfinals three of them will be played the 8th of July and one will be played the 7th thru 9th. The one quarterfinal that is being played one day ahead of the others is the one of Argentina against Kazakhstan and among the eight remaining teams we still have the defending champions team Serbia with the new world number one player Novak Djokovic. It will be interesting to see how Djokovic is going to handle being the new number one player in the world if it will get the better of him or will he continue to perform at the highest level.

The first quarterfinal is that of Sweden against the defending champions Serbia, which is being played in Halmstad Arena in Halmstad, Sweden this should be a one sided match with Serbia easily going thru to the semifinals. The reason why I don`t think that Sweden is going to put up much of a fight is because their lineup in none impressive with Michael Ryderstedt ranked 302 in the world and their other singles player is Ervin Eleskovic who is ranked 355 in the world, how do they expect to compete against Novak Djokovic number one in the world and Viktor Troicki number 12 in the world.

The second quarterfinal is Argentina against Kazakhstan and will be played in Buenos Aires, Argentina and the home team is a clear favorite here, don`t expect any upsets here. With Juan Ignacio Chela, Juan Martin Del Potro, David Nalbandian and Juan Monaco all ranked in the top 50 of the world and their opponents only have one player in the top 50 Andrey Golubev who is ranked 45. Again for this matchup I think it is going to be a one sided match and it could end up being a clean sweep for Argentina.

Probably the most interesting matchup arrives with the one of USA against Spain which will be played at the Frank Erwin Center located in Austin, Texas. This matchup should go down to the wire and the USA by far have the most impressive doubles team with the Bryan brothers. The US is putting Mardy Fish and Andy Roddick in their singles lineup and Spain are using David Ferrer and Fernando Verdasco. Not really sure what to say in regards to which team wins, but for sure it will be a close and tight match.

The final quarterfinal puts neighbors Germany up against France and they will play in TC Weissenhof Stuttgart and I would have to say I favor France over Germany due to their strong lineup that included Gael Monfils, Richard Gasquet, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Michael Llodra don`t really see how they could lose but then again that is why upsets exist.
