I do love my baseball and although this season hasn’t been great as a betting proposition in the main, as a sport, this season has been an absolute cracker. Plenty of surprises throughout the season, and that extra wee twist at the end in both divisions. The Play Offs have gone the same way, The Yankees and the Phillies falling a lot earlier than anticipated, but as a match up for the World Series, this has been a classic so far. Tonight its Game 6, in which St Louis are favourites to take it to a game seven tomorrow evening. Unfortunately though, because I feel most baseball fans would love to see a game seven, I know I certainly would, with that extra day off due to the weather last night, I feel that’s only going to play into the Texas Rangers hands. The pitching match up this evening is the same as last Thursday’s Game Two, as Colby Lewis and Jaime Garcia are on the mound. Also like last Thursday, the game is held in St Louis, which you would feel would give the Cardinals the advantage, but in Colby Lewis, you have a pitcher that’s more than comfortable on the road, from his fourteen wins in the regular season, nine came on the road. Jaime Garcia pitched really well last Thursday, but of the two pitchers on the mound this evening, he is the one that I feel will be feeling the pressure, after all, if he messes up, the World Series is over. He may well be in good form, but three good pitching performances in a row, hasn’t been something that Jaime Garcia has achieved this year and with a Play Off record of 0-2 with an ERA of 3.97, the Rangers are capable of grabbing a few runs this evening. Of course, Colby Lewis has his own issues, he finished the regular season with a 14-10 record, an ERA of 4.40 and as demonstrated against the Detroit Tigers in the ALDS, the Cardinals may themselves get a few runs. He was though a tad unlucky in the Game Two match up, the Rangers were very nervous that evening on the offensive side of the game, and although they came through in the end, there were times during the game in which the Rangers looked like blowing up. The difference between Game Two and now is the Rangers have steadily, but surely looked like the Texas Rangers team that can rack up the runs in an aggressive manner. If this match comes down to the bullpen, then the Rangers will now have the edge. Scott Feldman, Alexi Ogando and Neftali Feliz have all had that extra days rest and although Orgando and Feliz can blow up at any spot, overall though, you would feel pretty confident on them holding a lead. Its been a fantastic World Series, to cap off another season of baseball, a part of me would love to stretch it one more game, but im a baseball junkie and knowing that the end is nigh, I always want a game seven to finish things off, tonight though, the Rangers can gamble knowing they have a second chance if it doesn’t work. I fully expect Ron Washington to play an aggressive game tonight and finish the job.
