While everyone including almost every fan is waiting for the talks to end and the games to start there was some indication on Tuesday that talks had actually regressed. A source close to the talks said This almost blew up yesterday.
How close it actually got to blowing up really depends on your personal opinion. The blow up moment so to speak may havee just shortly after the lawyers representing both sides were brought in back to the process at a location which was undisclosed in Washington, DC.
Tensions certainly rose and yes there was anger, two sources in the NFL said that NFLPA leader i.e. DeMaurice Smith asked his lawyers to simply “stand down.” Lawyers were then removed from direct negotiations, it was said that the process did get back on track slightly. Tuesday should serve as an example for many of how exactly tenuous these talks are and can be as well as how quickly it can derail everything. However this also shows proof of the fact that how Smith and themissioner as well as the owners have decided to take the lawyers out of the equation and have taken control of hitting a good collective bargaining agreement all on their own.
The NFL along with the NFLPA have released a joint statement just yesterday afternoon formally acknowledging that the talks were a bit blown the previous day.
The statement reads: Discussions between NFL owners and players under the auspices of Chief Magistrate Judge Arthur Boylan took place again this week and will continue. At the request of Judge Boylan, both sides have agreed to maintain the confidentiality of the substance of the talks,
According to the spokesman Greg Aiello representing the league during the talks where you havemissioner Goodell and owners such as Jerry Richardson the owner of the Carolina Panthers, Clark Hunt of Kansas City Chiefs, John Mara of the New York Giants, Robert Kraft the owner of the New England Patriots and San Diego Chargers’ owner Deam Spanos can be difficult.
He said The general understanding from everybody is that if we dont have something done by July it would be hard to start on time, and that is exactly what many people are fearing would happen.
