The 42nd Annual World Series of Poker* is officially in full swing for the third week of action at the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. There have been approximately 10-events already played with many first time bracelet winners claiming history with United States players gathering a huge margin of victories over other countries. Let’s take a quick look at WSOP updates from these events which will lead up to the $10,000 Main Event that will begin on Thursday July 7th. US player Sean Drake was the first bracelet winner at Event #1 in the 2011 WSOP* winning the $500 casino employees NL holdem over a field of 850 for the $50,807 first place prize.
Jake Cody made England proud as he won 7-straight matches in the $25K Heads-up Championship to win the bracelet for Event #2 taking home $851,192. There were 925 poker players in the field for the $1,500 Omaha Hi-Low Split 8 or Better tournament which was won by USA pro Francesco Barbaro for the $262,283 pay-day. The $5k No-Limit Hold’em event drew in 865-players but US pro Allen Bari came out on top winning $874,116 for the four day event. US pro Eugene Katchalov took down 357-player to win his first bracelet in the $1,500 Seven-Card Stud event for a $122,909 prize. Harrison Wilder won $205,065 for Event #6 and became the bracelet winner for his first ever live tournament defeating 675-players in the $1,500 Limit Hold’em.
The last WSOP update for the first week of action in Vegas had US player Amir Lehavot winning the $10k Pot-Limit Hold’em tournament over a field of 249-poker players. Starting week 2 of the 2011 World Series in Vegas, players flocked to Event #8 for the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em tournament which saw a total of 4,178 entrants. US pro Sean Getzwiller won his first WSOP bracelet and took home $611,185 in first place prize money. Matt Perrins from the United Kingdom won the $1,500 2-7 Draw Lowball event over a field of 274-players for $102,105. An amateur pleasantly surprised the spectator around the $1.5k Six-Handed NL event as Geffrey Klein out lasted 1,920-entrants to become the bracelet winner for Event #10 and cash-out $554,388 for the win. The 22-year old Russian pro Viacheslav Zhukov outlasted 202-players over a four day span to win the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split 8 or Better for the $465,216 pay-day.
The $1,500 NL Triple Chance event crowned US pro David Diaz with his first bracelet after defeating 1,340-players for the $352,808 first place prize while the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout awarded US poker pro Andrew Badecker as the bracelet winner for his first as he outlasted 1,440-players to take home $369,371. The first Canadian bracelet winner came at event #14, the $3,000 Limit Hold’em, as Tyler Bonkowski took down 337-entrants for the $220,817 prize. A total of 765-players chipped in the $1,500 to play in the Pot Limit Hold’em even but it was US pro Brian Rast who came out on top for his first bracelet and $227,232. US poker professional Juan Juanda had a classic heads-up battle with Phil Hellmuth in the $10,000 2-7 Draw Lowball event but eventually took down the “poker brat” as well as a field of 126-players for his 5th bracelet and $367,170. Aaron Steury finished week #2 by winning another bracelet for the US taking down 963-players for the $289,283 first place prize.
