While Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods are getting most of the early attention and action in 2011 Masters odds, Lee Westwood may be a better PGA betting value as the third choice favorite to win the Green Jacket with odds of +1250. Westwood has been matched up with Martin Kaymer at Vegas sportsbooks for Thursday’s event and has opened as a -130 favorite vs Kaymer as an EV money underdog. Prop bets also offer an interest wager with Westwood +10000 to score a hole in one at Augusta. Westwood enters this week’s tournament ranked 2nd on the Official World Golf Ranking after leading the standings for a brief time at the conclusion of 2010.
Heading into 2011 Masters odds as +1250 favorite, Westwood has entered 4 events this year and made the cut twice but had no top 10 finishes. Westwood finished 2nd to Phil Mickelson in the 2010 Masters Tournament and was the leader of the winning Ryder Cup team for England last year. Westwood focuses most of his game on the European tour where he is ranked 10th all time for wins. Westwood has been highly competitive in all four PGA Tour grand slam major events although he is winless in them. Westwood has finished 3rd in the 2008 US Open, 2nd in the 2010 British Open and 3rd in the 2009 PGA Championship.
Westwood had plenty of early success in his career as he was named Player of the Year in the European Tour for 1998 and 2000 and then came back to win it again in 2009. He was the 2000 winner of the European Tour of Merit and was in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking from 1998-2001. Westwood makes for an attractive alternative among other PGA golf betting favorites in 2011 Masters odds as he is the 2nd ranked player in the world that has a better price than either Woods or Mickelson; who are lower ranked and have been inconsistent as far as their recent play goes. The Masters can be seen live on ESPN and CBS starting Thursday April 7th and will run through Saturday April 10th.
